The second and last session of the SBS Lift Seminar 2020 took place on Tuesday, 10th November. The session resumed the discussion on the core review of the EN81 standard series from where it had been left the week before at the end of the first part, handing over the baton to the European Commission's DG Grow. Mr. Damyan Petrov, Vice-President of EFESME, and Ms. Maitane Olabarria Uzquiano, Director of SBS – Small Business Standards, kicked off the event, stressing how important it is that the voice of the SME is heard and respected in all the standardisation processes. Immediately afterwards, Mr. Vesa Katajisto, Policy Officer of DG Grow and representative of the office dealing with the lift sector, presented the Commission's views on the current review, its expectations, and the importance of Mandate M/549 and its requests when drafting harmonised standards in support of the essential health and safety requirements (EHSRs), among other aspects.

During this second session, Mr. Luciano Faletto, General Secretary of EFESME, and Mr. Ivan Ferrarini, EFESME and SBS expert in CEN/TC10 WG1, had a lively discussion with Mr. Katajisto to clarify many aspects of the Mandate and its content, and to underline once again the importance for the whole sector in having harmonised standards. Oncce again, particular attention was paid to how SMEs and the lift industry can participate in the standardisation and in policy-making processes: Mr. Katajisto explained the various possible ways of participation, from answering to public consultations to attending working group, stressing how the Commission is committed to involving as many stakeholders as possible.
