1st EFESME Experts Meeting

The first EFESME Expert Meeting of 2020 took place on 16th April. The meeting, which saw the participation of several national EFESME members as well as its experts, engaged in different working groups, is the first of an annual series of three meetings to involve members in the more technical activities of the Federation, and to encourage deeper and deeper discussions and exchanges of information.  The meeting focused on the activities carried out by the Federation at European and international level, especially with regard to its participation in CEN-CENELEC and ETSI activities in Europe, and ISO at international level, as well as other bodies such as Notified Bodies for Lifts and several working groups of the European Commission. These presentations by the experts allowed them to go into detail about the documents they are developing or correcting, especially in the light of the latest decisions taken by the European Commission regarding EN81 standards in the sector.  Particular attention was paid to the activities that EFESME develops year after year with SBS, to ensure that the standards developed in the elevator industry are SME-friendly, so that they bring as much support as possible to SMEs and are not an additional burden in their everyday work. In this context, the present discussed deliverables in preparation, such as articles and position papers on various topics related to standardisation and the position of SMEs in this area, and events to be organised to involve them more and more, always taking due account of the extraordinary circumstances in which we find ourselves.  Finally, the last part of the meeting allowed the members to present the activities carried out at national level: VmA (Germany), ANACAM (Italy) and FEPYMA (Spain) illustrated their past and future activities and events, in order to provide information and food for thought to all participants. There was also an opportunity to discuss the activities carried out within the individual national standardisation institutes and with other industry partners, and, given the emergency we have been experiencing in recent months, COVID-19 was also logically discussed.  The expert meeting between experts and members compared the perceived needs at national level and the action carried out at European and national level, in order to better coordinate the work of the various parties involved in the Federation's activities.
